Colourpop X Sailor Moon Collection (Toei Animation)

Updated: Apr 27, 2023

Colourpop X Sailor Moon Collection is one of Colourpop's most highly requested collection that was released this year which I due believe coincides with Sailor Moon's 25th Anniversary. In this collection Colourpop released x1 Eyeshadow Palette, x2 Blushers, x2 Lip Sets (x4 individual lip products) and X2 Face & Body Glitters. Being a major Sailor Moon fan, I just had to purchased the entire collection! I also purchased multiple items, for back ups since this is a limited edition collection.

Concept & Packaging :

For this collection colour did a fantastic job conveying the concept of Sailor Moon with Colourpop standards into the packaging of the Sailor Moon collaboration. The collection is bring back a sense of nostalgia of Sailor Moon and the 90's era. The pale hazy powder pink base colour gives the entire collection a very feminine girly vibe, very suitable for the Moon Princess herself. The entire collection is also embellished with beautiful gold holographic print lends a very fun magical effect to the packaging. Another special elements Colourpop added to the packaging of some of the products in this collection was motion cards. They really added another fun element to the collection, but I kinda wish they maybe did Sailor Moon's Transformation graphic instead. Other than that, I love the shade names in this collection, they are very fun and cute that go along with Sailor Moon as a whole. To me the unicarton / outer packing is worth keeping, the Sailor Moon & Luna graphics bring back so much memories that it's hard to throw them away! Love the overall look and feel of this entire collection!

Products :

Pretty Guardian Eyeshadow Palette is the absolutely the main star piece in this collection. Colourpop released a x12 eyeshadow palette which is pretty standard for them to do for a collaboration collection. Out of the x12 shades there are x3 Mattes, x4 glitter matte shades (matte base with spread out micro glitters) and x5 glitter shimmer shades. The colour story for this palette just screams Sailor Moon, with the bright selections of colours ranging from neon pink to a muted lavender shade, this palette also has a beautiful range of shimmers and glitters with gold and pink undertones. A very unique eyeshadow palette and the only palette that has this kind of colour tones in my collection. The only downside to this is, it definitely feels more like a festival or spring time makeup with the shade range. I couldn't really create a variety of looks with this palette, not could I create a natural subtle look. Other than that, the quality of the eyeshadows are great! The mattes are soft and super pigmented, only thing is they do give off alot of kickback off the pan. Some of the shimmer eyeshadow (Silver Crystal & Silver Millennium) in the palette have the same formula as Colourpop's Super Shock Shadows, which to me are gorgeous, creamy and butter and lay down so well on top on shadows. Overall a beautiful eyeshadow palette with great quality that even Usagi would wear! (USD20)

Pressed Powder Blush (Cat's Eye & From The Moon) For the Sailor Moon Collaboration Colourpop released x2 blushes, The first shade From the Moon is a midtone cool pink with a matte finish while Cat's Eye can be described as a peachy pink with a shimmer finish very similar to NARS Orgasm shade. These blushes are also embossed with Luna on them for such a lovely added touch. The formulation is soft and smooth, I do experience a bit of kickback but the pigmentation and the blend of the powder is so good that I don't mind as much. To me Colourpop's powder product formulations are top notch, so I expect nothing less from them. The only thing that saddens me is that the Luna embossing is to to lovely to disturb. (USD12)

Ultra Blotted Lip (Bunhead & Usagi) For this collection Colourpop released x2 Ultra Blotted Liquid lipsticks in the shade Bunhead which is a cool mid tone mauvey pink shade while Usagi is a cool tone berry pink shade. The formula of Colourpop's Ultra Blotted Lip is very similar to their Ultra Matte except that the finish is more comfortable, leaning to the velvet matte finish once it dries. During initial application I notice the formula has some slick to it that it was hard to be precise with application, there was some bleeding of the colour, but once it dries it's so comfortable and lightweight feeling on the lips. The only thing is that the shades were kinda of sheer and I couldn't get a full coverage to cover the dark spot on my lips. Also notice there was a slight hint of a silicone scent from the product. Overall a great liquid lip formula, I much preferer this compared to Ultra Matte formulation. (USD15)

Ultra Glossy Lip (Moon Tiara & Sailor Moon). Along side x2 Liquid Lipsticks Colourpop also released x2 lip glosses for the Sailor Moon Collection. The x2 shades are Moon Tiara which is a yellow orange champagne shade while Sailor Moon is a pink peach almost rose gold shade. Both colours have tiny micro glitters scattered throughout the gloss. The formula is super sheer in pigmentation, but the finish will definitely give you high-shine. Once applied, it has a very comfortable lightweight feeling on the lips. I did notice that this formula has a non-sticky feeling but if I applied too much product/layers the formula tends to be very stringy. Overall, a good hydrating sheer lip gloss with such unique shades, my only complain is the brush applicator. I prefer a doe-foot for better application and spread of the product, but that's just me. (USD15)

Glitter Gel (Moon Prism Power & Moonlight Legend). is a body glitter released for the Sailor Moon Collaboration collection, and comes in x2 shades. Moon Prism Power is stunning celestial purple opalescent shade. While Moonlight Legend is a gorgeous ethereal pink opalescent shade. Both shades has a multi-dimensional tone to them, were colour shifts depending on the light. The formula of these glitter as really good! The gel like formula helps spread and disperse the glitters well but also helps to sets the glitter in place so there is no need for glitter glue. Another thing that I like is that, I didn't have a hard time washing the product off at the end of the day. Normally for me, I hate using glitter because of the fact some glitters can be such a pain to remove. TBH, I'm not a big fan of body glitters or rather I just don't have the time or place to use it. Other than that, I think it's a great formula for body glitter and the cute shapes of the glitter together with the shades are stunning and so much fun! If I was going to a concert or festival I would definitely use it more! (USD9)

Overall, what else can I cay about this collection, It's Sailor Moon makeup that actually functions! When Colourpop announced they were releasing this collection, the child in me just screamed and I knew the adult in me had to have it! I really think if you are a Sailor Moon lover, then you definitely need this collection. Colourpop to me is such a great affordable brand with great quality and for them to receive the licensing for this collection is such a big deal and I truly feel they did Sailor Moon and Toei Animation really proud! A collection definitely worth getting!
